In the Maritime Research Alliance we work to strengthen collaboration across universities and maritime academies and to create a strong foundation for maritime research and education in Denmark. We are therefore pleased to present our final report to Orients Fond, summarizing the activities and results of the project period.

The report documents how MRA has worked to consolidate and expand cross-institutional maritime collaboration across Denmark. Through workshops, conferences, research networking activities, PhD initiatives, and targeted knowledge sharing, the Alliance has brought together researchers, educators, and industry stakeholders across disciplines and institutions.
A key focus of the project has been to:
– Strengthen interdisciplinary maritime research collaboration
– Support early-career researchers and PhD networks
– Facilitate dialogue between academia and industry
– Increase the visibility of Danish maritime research nationally and internationally
– Contribute to strategic discussions on maritime education and competence development
The report highlights how MRA has functioned as a neutral platform connecting technical, social science, and legal research environments, while also engaging closely with industry actors and public authorities. By creating arenas for dialogue and joint project development, the Alliance has contributed to positioning Denmark as a strong and coordinated maritime knowledge nation.
At the same time, the report points to the continued need for structured collaboration across institutions in order to address major societal challenges such as decarbonization, digitalization, security, and sustainable ocean governance. Complex maritime challenges require interdisciplinary solutions — and strong networks.
For MRA, this report marks an important milestone. It reflects years of dedicated collaboration across our member institutions and partners, and we are proud of what has been achieved together. We are grateful for the support from Orients Fond and for the engagement from universities, maritime academies, researchers, and industry representatives who have made the project possible.
We look forward to building on these results and continuing to strengthen Denmark’s maritime research and education ecosystem in the years to come.
